Interpretive Summary: The use of molecular genetic tools for determining variation in populations has grown at a faster pace than the techniques for analyzing the data that are generated. Amplified fragment length polymorphism is a powerful technique that requires additional tools for analysis of the vast amount of information generated. An available program for calculating the coefficient of variation for the data was written for Portuguese speaking users. We adapted the program for English speaking users. The result, named Bootsie, estimates the coefficient of variation, has been improved to provide exportation of data for use in other programs in the chain of analysis, provides estimates of remaining time to completion, and displays graphic output. Bootsie improves on the previous program and, being written as a JAVA application, will be easily updated. Technical Abstract: Bootsie is an English-native replacement for ASG Coelho’s “DBOOT” utility for estimating coefficient of variation of a population of AFLP marker data using bootstrapping. Bootsie improves on DBOOT by supporting batch processing, time-to-completion estimation, built-in graphs, and a suite of export tools for creating data files for other population genetics software. Bootsie is released as open-source software under the Apache 2.0 license and is available for any Java SE 6 platform at http://code.google.com/p/bootsie/downloads/list/. |
