Technical Abstract: Information-based management of crop production systems known as precision agriculture relies on different sensor technologies aimed at characterization of spatial heterogeneity of a cropping environment. Remote and proximal sensing systems have been deployed to obtain high-resolution data pertaining to soil and crop properties. Unfortunately, many such data layers do not convey agronomically meaningful information directly, as sensor measurements frequently respond to more than one attribute. Therefore sensor fusion and integrated data processing algorithms have been recognized as the most promising strategy to overcome current limitations in applicability of the data obtained. This chapter discusses the overall strategy for sensor fusion related to precision agriculture. Several examples of optimized usage of agricultural inputs achieved through combining spatial and temporal data gathered from alternative sources and at different times are described.
