Registers of family-group and genus-group taxa of Aphidoidea. In: Nieto Nafria, J.M., Favret, C., editors. Entomological Society of Spain. Leon, Spain: University of Leon. p. 81-404. Interpretive Summary: Billions of dollars of annual crop losses result from aphid feeding damage and their ability to transmit plant diseases. Proper identification and classification is critical before any control program can be started. This paper clarifies the status of aphid scientific names in the worldwide literature and conforms to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The results will be used by Federal quarantine specialists, state entomologists, extension personnel, and scientists. Technical Abstract: This “Register of the genus-group taxa of Aphidoidea” corresponds to the proposal approved by the delegates attending the Eighth International Symposium on Aphids with the addition of taxa described since 31 December 2005, the cutoff date for the proposal. The genus-group names included here belong to the same superfamily, Aphidoidea, as contextualized and circumscribed in the “Register of family-group taxa of Aphidoidea”. Some nomenclatural clarifications resulting from the preparation of this work have already been published in 2009 (Redia, 92: 119123) and 2010 (Zootaxa, 2410: 6568). This “Register” is composed of two sections: “Available Names” and “Unavailable Names” and likewise “valid” and “invalid” are used with the exact meanings as laid out in the “International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Fourth Edition” (henceforth the “Code”). |
