Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: With the growing problem of obesity, and little understanding of why it is occurring, some research has focused on whether the lack of physical activity leads to poorer diet and increased adiposity, or the reverse. In a literature review, no consistent relationship was found between level of physical activity and total caloric intake, but the more active tended to consume more fruit and vegetables. This could be a method artifact, e.g. social desirability of response influencing self report of diet and physical activity. More research with better methods is required.
