Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This chapter describes the ascomycete yeast genus Schwanniomyces and is to be published in The Yeasts, A Taxonomic Study, 5th edn. The genus Schwanniomyces has seven assigned species, many worldwide in distribution. Schwanniomyces is one of the few yeast genera with species that seem to live in the soil. Schwanniomyces occidentalis is of interest to biotechnologists because it produces a highly active amylase. |
