Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This document provides an example of the ‘Manure Tracking Book’ that was used by the fifty-four Wisconsin dairy farmers who participated in the “On Farmers’ Ground” nutrient management research project. This Book was used to systematically tract how, when and where farmers spread manure, and factors that influenced farmer decisions related to manure management. The data entered by farmers into this Book was used for multiple purposes, including the development of farm maps to depict manure spreading practices and cropland areas impacted by USDA-NRCS 590 Nutrient Management Standards. This information was part of the final report (please see CRIS Log Number: xxxxxxxx) provided to each participant farmer. The data compiled in this Book formed the basis for the publication ‘Nutrient management behavior on Wisconsin dairy farms’, Agronomy Journal, 99:211-219, 2007 by Powell, J.M., Jackson-Smith, D.B., McCrory, D., Saam, H. and Mariola, M. (please see CRIS Log Number: 206669)
