Technical Abstract: Three insect susceptible cultivars ('Beauregard' [B94-14], ‘Liberty’, and 'SC 1149-19'), two insect-resistant cultivars ('Charleston Scarlet' and ‘Ruddy’), and 6 regional genotypes from the 2007 National Sweetpotato Collaborator Trials were evaluated for insect resistance in replicated field trials at Charleston, SC. Only one regional entry (L01-29) had a significantly lower WDS index (Wireworm, Diabrotica, Systena) rating than ‘SC 1149 19’, and the highest levels of WDS resistance were for the resistant check cultivars ‘Ruddy’ and ‘Charleston Scarlet’. Five genotypes had significantly less damage by flea beetles and four genotypes had significantly less damage by grubs than did ‘SC1149-19’. However, none of the regional entries were significantly more resistant to flea beetles or grubs than the ‘Beauregard’ clone B94-14. Four genotypes were more resistant to sweetpotato weevils than ‘Beauregard’ (B94-14) or ‘SC1149-19’.
