Topics of the seminar will include information on USDA-ARS research at the Albany location and general background on botulism and neurotoxin biology. In addition, the following FCR unit botulinum neurotoxin research (BoNT) will be highlighted: Toxicity comparison of BoNTs - factors that affect bioavailability of toxins; development of detection reagents and in vitro immuno and activity assays for toxins; use of oral and systemic mouse models in the determination of pharmacokinetics and antibody neutralization of BoNT; mechanisms of antibody toxin clearance; use of recombinant proteins and reagents;and challenges for future vaccine/therapeutics development and detection methodologies.
