Interpretive Summary: Three varieties of cotton each grown in three different growing locations in the U.S. over two growing seasons were scoured in order to remove all non-cellulose chemical constituents. The resulting cottons were subsequently analyzed for metal contents. The goal of this work is to provide regional and varietal information regarding potential differences in dyeability due to the presence of metals in the cellulose matrix.

Technical Abstract: Three varieties of upland cotton each grown in three different growing locations in the U.S. over two growing seasons were scoured in order to remove all non-cellulose chemical constituents. The resulting cottons were subsequently analyzed for calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, nickel, zinc and iron contents using ICP-AES spectroscopy. The goal of this work is to provide regional and varietal information regarding potential differences in dyeability due to the presence of metals in the cellulose matrix.
