Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Recently, the range management profession has been debating the advantages and disadvantages of rotational livestock grazing systems. Despite the lack of scientifically-based evidence in support of the benefits of rotational grazing in arid and semiarid environments, these systems are often promoted as ecologically and economically menial, or even counterproductive in some settings. Much of the promotion of these systems is based on personal observations, or beliefs, and not evidence drawn from experimental evidence. Rangeland management has always been described as an art and a science, and the strength of one’s conviction are often based on both. |
