Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Cooperative Regional Performance Nursery data are presented and summarized for entries in the 2006 Uniform Midseason Oat Performance Nursery. The entries included 31 experimental lines from 8 public oat breedng programs plus 5 long-term check cultivars. The nursery was grown at 17 locations in 10 States and 2 Canadian Provinces. Evaluation of performance of elite lines across the wide range of environments aids the cooperators to identify potential cultivar releases and germplasm for use in new crosses. The nursery mean yield of 116.6 bu/A was slightly lower than the 2005 mean yield of 119.6 bu/A, and much lower than the 2004 mean yield of 133.6 bu/A. Multiple location data are presented for seed quality traits including test weight, groat percentage, and protein, beta-glucan and oil contents; for several disease reactions including rusts, smut, and barley yellow dwarf virus; and for various agronomic traits including yield, maturity date, and lodging resistance. The Nursery report will be posted on the Graingenes web site. The web site address is
