Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This article describes the International Solanaceae Congress to be held in Madison, Wisconsin July 23-27, 2006. The University of Wisconsin-Madison will be the host to this meeting that combines meetings of three groups involved in research on the Solanaceae family: 1) The Potato Association of America, 2) The International Solanaceae Congress, and 3) The Solanaceae Genomics Initiative. These meetings will bring together expert scientists with fields of specialization including potato production, pest management, seed management, and Solanaceae genomics. The symposium during this year's meeting is entitled ‘Genomics meets biodiversity’ with invited speakers from San Diego, CA, to China, to Peru to The Netherlands. There will be a peer-reviewed book to arise from this conference. The PAA meeting will include a Sunday President's Reception, a PAA raffle, a Tuesday evening social/poster viewing session, a Wednesday evening barbeque, and a Thursday evening banquet specific to the PAA. Pre-meeting events include a fishing outing and a golf scramble. Wednesday is devoted to tours to the Hancock Wisconsin Agricultural Field Station as part of the Hancock Potato Field Day. Program highlights include discussion of P management in potato across the United States, slow release N effects on potato, new potato variety descriptions, fumigation alternatives, improving irrigation efficiency, biology and management of numerous diseases, insects, and weeds, several physiological processes influencing tuber quality, and many other topics.
