Marek's disease virus immune escape mechanisms. American Association of Avian Pathologists. In: American Association of Avian Pathologists Symposium Program. Impact of Subclinical Immunosuppression on Poultry Production, July 2006, Honolulu, Hawaii. p. 61-66. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: As with all large DNA viruses, the alpha-herpesvirus that induces Marek’s disease (MDV) in chickens has a complicated interaction with its host. Herpesviruses generally infect an animal for life even in the face of a formidable host immune response to infection. The ability to escape immune recognition is a common theme attributed to all large DNA viruses and the Marek’s disease virus is no exception. This review will discuss herpesvirus immune evasion in general and detail our current knowledge of MDV immune interactions. |
