Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This winter (2005-06), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-Agricultural Research Service in Stuttgart, AR and USDA-Wildlife Services in Starkville, MS will be capturing several cormorants (“water turkeys”) to attach transmitters on their backs. These birds will also be wearing an aluminum leg band as well as a blue plastic leg band with white numbers. We are asking for your help to retrieve dead birds and to contact us if you find any of the birds. You can keep the bands, but we are requesting you return the transmitters so they can be refurbished and reused since these are costly. We appreciate your efforts in helping us and we will be keeping you apprised of the research findings.
