Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The development of antibiotic resistant bacteria is of increasing concern to physicians and public health officials around the world. The recent development of the multiple antibiotic resistant Salmonella typhimurium DT104 and the proliferation of this organism in different countries along with increasing evidence of resistance to flouroquinolones has led to added pressures to reduce antimicrobial usage in animal production systems. These and related issues will be examined in depth by speakers from the U.S. FDA, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Public Health Laboratory Service in Great Britain, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Animal Health Institute. |
