Interpretive Summary: The mosquito genus Downsiomyia is described in all known life stages and information is provided for distinguishing it from other mosquito genera. The type species is described in detail and the 30 known species included in the genus are listed. The genus contains some species of medical importance and the publication of better information on diagnosing it will be useful to agencies responsible for mosquito control and for the investigation of mosquito-borne diseases. This work was completed at the Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology of the United States Department of Agriculture. The article will be published in the Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association.

Technical Abstract: Genus Downsiomyia and its type species, Do. nivea (Ludlow), are described in detail. Thirty species included in the genus are listed. An extensive list of previous literature pertaining to the genus is provided with references cited.
