Aedes (finlaya) alongi galliard & ngu (diptera: culicidae: aedini): description of the female, redescription of the fourth-instar larva, and reassignment to genus bothaella reinert. Zootaxa. 1135:49-55. Interpretive Summary: The original description of Aedes alongi was of the larva, was extremely brief and lacked most details of its morphology, thus making it impossible to identify field collected specimens. This is evident since its original description in 1947 the species has been cited in the literature only two times (once by the original authors). The present paper provides mosquito control workers a complete description of the female and fourth-instar larva which will aid in its identification. Based on the morphology of the female, female genitalia and fourth-instar larvae this species is transferred to the genus Bothaella. This work was completed at the Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology of the United States Department of Agriculture. The article will be published in Zootaxa. Technical Abstract: The female of Aedes (Finlaya) alongi is described for the first time and the fourth-instar larva is redescribed in detail. The species is reassigned to Bothaella and compared to other species of the genus. |
