Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The use of RNA profiling has become a powerful strategy to examine genome-wide gene transcript accumulation patterns. The Barley1 Affymetrix GeneChip probe array is a resource that can be used to examine the expression of greater than 20,000 genes in parallel. This article summarizes several research projects that are using the Barley1 Affymetrix GeneChip for a diverse range of studies. This includes physically mapping large numbers of barley genes to individual chromosomes and chromosome arms in wheat-barley aneuploid stocks, examining RNA profiles in barley infected with Fusarium graminearum, and identifying markers for specific barley genome regions in a targeted manner. The recent development of the Barley1 GeneChip probe array has provided the barley genetics community a new high-throughput tool to assess gene expression patterns.
