Progeny production of stored-product beetles on rough rice in response to geographic location and harvest date. Meeting Abstract. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Adult lesser grain borers and rice weevils were exposed on three varieties of long-grain rough rice harvested from Essex MO, Hasen AR, and Newport AR, and held at 57 and 75% RH. There was no difference in lesser grain borer progeny production between the two RH levels, while progeny production of rice weevils was greater at 75 than at 57% RH. There was no statistical difference in progeny production of either species among the three varieties at a particular site. However, for both species there were differences among locations with respect to individual varieties. Results indicate that internal quality characteristics as related to growing conditions could influence growth and development of internal feeders of rough rice. |
