Citation: Reinert, J.F. 2005. List of species described in the egg stage of tribe aedini (diptera: culicidae) with their literature citations. American Mosquito Control Association. 21(3):252-262.

Interpretive Summary: An up-to-date list of aedine mosquito species with published descriptions and/or illustrations of the egg stage is provided. This list illustrates the paucity of descriptive information for this important life history stage. Only about 17% of the approximately 1,200 known species in this important tribe of mosquitoes is known in this stage. Numerous species of aedine mosquitoes are important vectors of pathogens or pests of humans or domesticated animals. Publication of this list will provide a ready reference for public health and mosquito control personnel. This work was completed at the USDA, ARS, Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology.

Technical Abstract: Species of Aedini with published morphological descriptions and/or illustrations of eggs are listed with their literature citations. Each species has a notation indicating descriptions are written, illustrated or both. Only approximately 17% of aedine species currently have morphological descriptions published for the egg stage.
