Predicting the failure of amyloid-beta vaccine. Lancet. 359:1864-1865. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This correspondence discusses the failure of the amyloid-Beta vaccine for treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The authors argue that there is no evidence to suggest that the removal or alteration of amyloid-beta deposits would benefit patients with AD. Instead it is proposed that the removal of amyloid-beta from the brain of the aged or those with AD is more likely to destabilize age-related or disease-related compensations and be harmful, as seen in the testing of the amyloid-Beta vaccine. |
