Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Over 2 billion pounds of dry feather waste is disposed of each year in the U.S. at a cost to the poultry producer. Historically, researchers have tried to use the feathers in textiles and in applications where down is already used, but to no avail. This presentation explains new ways to incorporate poultry feathers into non-woven mats, filters, polymer composites, and keratin polymers for high-volume, profit generating applications.
