Interpretive Summary: Much work has been performed on determining regions of the pig genome that affect Quantitative Trait Loci. These efforts have been hampered by the limited number of informative genetics markers (for example microsatellite markers) available. This report describes the mapping of 373 porcine microsatellite markers by radiation hybrid mapping. These markers will provide a resource for determining regions of the pig genome where genes affecting economically important traits reside.

Technical Abstract: An enormouus amount of effort has been put into mapping Quantitaive Trait Loci in swine. When a QTL region has been identified the next step is to fine map the region and narrow the location harboring the QTL. One of the limiting factors to this approach has been lack of informative genetic markers. The genetic markers of choice are called microsatellites. This paper reports the radiation hybrid mapping of 373 new porcine microsatellites. These markers are distributed throughout the genome and mapped to all 18 autosomes and the X chromosome.
