It reduces hatchery production, thereby increasing costs and reducing profits. Despite careful and conscientious prevention disease problems sometimes still occur. When a problem occurs it is important to catch and correct the problem quickly. Therefore a fish culturist must have an existing plan and strategy to handle the problem before it occurs. This strategy should include knowledge of the nearest fish health diagnostic laboratory, how to collect diseased specimens, and how to properly ship the specimens to the laboratory. The purpose of this chapter is to help farm managers work closely with fish health specialists to properly collect and submit samples for disease diagnosis. |
