Technical Abstract: Expressed sequence tag (EST) information derived from abomasum undergoing active parasite infection is critical to functional genomic studies aimed at understanding the bovine mucosal immune system and gut tissue responses (repair, necrosis, etc.). An arrayed, normalized cDNA library (BARC 9BOV) was constructed using a pooled sample of mRNA derived from various tissues induced for the stereotypic Th2 immune response by infection with site-specific nematode parasites. A total of 21,853 EST were generated from the 9BOV library. These EST serve as a resource for annotating the bovine genome, design of hybridization oligonucleotides for microarray resources, and cDNA clone sources for generating full-length reference sequences in cattle.
