Technical Abstract: The U.S. Department of Agriculture Nematode Collection (USDANC) at Beltsville, MD, is one of the largest and most valuable international resources for nematode taxonomic research and identifications. It is widely used by U.S. and international scientists to resolve various taxonomic and nomenclatural problems and provides data on nematode hosts, occurrence, and distribution worldwide. A brief description of the constituent divisions of the Collection are given which, including the type collection, includes over 38,300 permanent slides and vials and over 34,000 species entries in its database. A detailed history of and maintenance procedures for are also given for the USDANC type collection. The USDA Nematode Collection and its database are under the care of the Nematology Laboratory at Beltsville, Maryland and is available on the Web at
