Interpretive Summary: Infection by single-celled parasites of the genus Sarcocystis cause mortality in animals and humans. In the present paper a scientist from the Beltsville Agricutural Research Center reviews information on biology, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of sarcocystosis in humans and animals. The results will be of interest to biologists, parsitologists, veterinarians and physiclans.

Technical Abstract: Infection by the species of the genus Sarcocystis cause morbidity and mortality in humans and animals. In the present paper history, biology, life cycle, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and control of Sarcocystis infections in humans and animals are reiewed.
