Interpretive Summary: Infection by single-celled parasites of the genus Sarcocystis cause mortality in animals and humans. Technical Abstract: Infection by the species of the genus Sarcocystis cause morbidity and mortality in humans and animals. In the present paper history, biology, life cycle, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and control of Sarcocystis infections in humans and animals are reiewed.
