Technical Abstract: Various agricultural residues such as corn fiber, corn stover, wheat straw, and rice straw can be converted to fuel ethanol by fermentation. However, efficient pretreatment and enzymatic conversion of these residues to fermentable sugars are essential. This chapter gives an account of the pretreatment options and enzymes involved as biocatalysts in the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to fermentable sugars.
