Registration of CP07 and CP08 sugarbeet germplasms with resistance to powdery mildew, rhizomania, and other diseases. Crop Science. 2004. v. 44. p. 2276-2277. Interpretive Summary: N/A Technical Abstract: High, simply inherited resistance to powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe polygoni was not known before the discovery of Pm gene from wild beet germplasm. CP07 and CP08 are advanced, enhanced germplasm lines of sugarbeet in which the resistance to powdery mildew has been backcrossed from wild beet and combined with resistance to rhizomania, curly top virus, virus yellows, and other diseases. In addition, resistance to sugarbeet cyst nematode may have also been transferred from wild beet to these germplasms. If this proves to be so, this will represent another, unique source of resistance in these germplasm lines. These breeding lines will potentially lead to these resistances being incorporated into commercial hybrids for use by the American and world sugarbeet industry. |
