Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Over the years, the Internet has proven itself an increasingly valuable tool for the research scientist in the field of fats and oils, whether lipid chemist, biologist or dietitian. The listings of sites created by scientific organizations, governments, corporations, concerned individuals, researchers, hobbyists, and as study courses/resources by college professors/departments is almost endless; covering all areas of chemistry and biology (from such diverse topics as finding jobs, to the theoretical and/or practical aspects of liquid chromatography to molecular modeling), as well as related areas such as, educational opportunities, resume writing, robotics, patents, safety, government regulations, material safety data sheets (MSDS), conversion factors, science humor, statistics, and the history of chemistry, even to archives containing lost or discontinued sites. This article includes reviews on and Web addresses for three main 'Net-related topics: a) General and science-related search engines (a.k.a. spiders), b) Well-constructed/maintained (updated within the last 12 months) sites containing useful information/links and c) Databases or collections of data of specific interest to the lipid scientist. |
