Technical Abstract: The Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the South Carolina Agriculture and Forestry Research System, Clemson University, have developed a new sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] cultivar named Liberty. Liberty is a Boniato-type sweetpotato that exhibits multiple resistances to insects and nematodes. These resistances and its attractive storage roots with a scarlet skin color and cream flesh color make Liberty a desirable cultivar for markets that prefer a dry, mild-flavored sweetpotato. The new cultivar is also suitable for organic growers and home gardeners.
