Technical Abstract: The effect of subgroup J avian leukosis virus (ALV-J) tolerance in commercial meat-type chickens was studied using three different ALV-J isolates. ALV-J isolates, ADOL-Hc1, ADOL-6803, ADOL-4817 at 10,000 iu and 100 iu were inoculated in ovo and at day of hatch in commercial meat-type chicks. ADOL-Hc1 was also inoculated at 10,000 iu in chicken embryos at three different ages. Samples were collected every 4 weeks to test for viremia, cloacal shedding and antibody response. The study was terminated at 32 weeks of age. The factors responsible for inducing ALV-J tolerance will be discussed.
