Technical Abstract: Four methods of using biotechnology to reduce synthetic herbicide use are briefly discussed. They involve genetically engineering: 1) crops to be more competitive; 2) crops to be more allelopathic, 3) weed-killing biocontrol organisms to be more virulent; and 4) cover crops to self destruct near the time that crop is planted.
