Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Our lab is examining the nuclear Hsp90 chaperone gene as a molecule with both functional and phylogenetic potential. With degenerate primers for partial Hsp90 sequences only one copy of the gene was detected in plant parasites. Even partial Hsp90 sequence could produce well-supported MrBayes nine-taxon trees with expected topology, unlike longer sequences from LSU and SSU ribosomal DNA genes. Inhibition of hatch and motility was demonstrated for the Hsp90 inhibitor geldanamycin applied to heat-shocked and non-heat shocked eggs of C. elegans and soybean cyst nematode, H. glycines.
