Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The occurrence of trichothecene mycotoxins is an old and chronic problem in agriculture, especially in temperate regions of the world where Fusarium species infect cereal crops. Knowledge of the synthesis and function of trichothecenes has identified new strategies for controlling trichothecene contamination of grains. Further worldwide surveys of trichothecenes and of trichothecene-producing species of Fusarium would facilitate efforts to detect their accidental or deliberate introduction.
