Interpretive Summary: Controlled aeration is an improved technique for cooling stored grain and preventing deterioration from molds and insects. By automating control of the fans with a simple reliable control system, fan operation is much easier for the operator and the aeration process will be more efficient and effective than can be achieved by manual operation. However, controlled aeration is only part of an effective storage management plan. This article explains how controlled aeration works and highlights other important aspects of grain storage management that are required to maintain stored grain quality.
