Development and evaluation of rice breeding lines for blast resistance at Arkansas, USA [abstract]. Proceedings of the Third International Rice Blast Conference. p. 113. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Blast and sheath blight are the major diseases of rice in Arkansas. Although environmental conditions and recommended cultural practices help reduce the possibility of widespread rice blast disease epidemic, resistant cultivars provide the primary means of control. Rice farmers in Arkansas prefer high yielding blast resistant cultivars. To assure their continued development our objective is to combine single gene and partial resistance mechanisms and screen reeding populations and evaluate advanced breeding lines for resistance in the field, greenhouse, and laboratory. Methods used for the development and evaluation of breeding materials will be described. |
