Interpretive Summary: AOCS abstract

Technical Abstract: Fusarium verticillioides is a toxin-producing fungus that grows on corn. Corn contaminated with the toxins can cause serious health problems in animals and humans. Plantpro 45[Trade Mark], an agent with an iodine-based active ingredient, was analyzed as a potential control for F. verticillioides growth. F. verticillioides conidial growth was suppressed at less than 5 ppm Plantpro iodine-based active ingredient (a. i.). Thus, Plantpro 45[Trade Mark] has potential as a fungicide for this pest. Plantpro 45[Trade Mark] would be a novel material for agricultural use because an iodine-based active ingredient has not been used for fungal control in agrochemicals despite centuries of use as a disinfectant in humans and animals.
