Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Avian coccidiosis, an economically important disease for the poultry industry, is caused by intracellular protozoa belonging to several species of the genus Eimeria. Infection with Eimeria spp. results in extensive destruction of the intestinal epithelium accompanied by severe depression in body weight gain, reduced feed efficiency and intestinal shedding of parasite oocysts. Application of antigen-encoding DNA plasmids as vaccine has been shown to successfully induce protective immune responses against a variety of infectious diseases. Since the emergence of gene-based immunization methodologies, various strategies have been used to increase the efficiency of DNA vaccination. In this report, new results from our DNA vaccination studies will be addressed.
