Interpretive Summary: This Field Day 2002 Report of the USDA, ARS, Grazinglands Research Laboratory, El Reno, OK, provides an overview of the laboratory's mission, research organization, staff, and ongoing research. The research at the laboratory is focused on the stocker calf component of the Nation's beef production system, and on more efficient approaches to forage production and utilization, and on developing knowledge to support sound stewardship of the soil and water resource base that supports agriculture. The laboratory staff consists of 17 scientists and 42 support personnel, and the research program consists of two units: the Forage and Livestock Production Research Unit and the Great Plains Agroclimate and Natural Resources Research Unit. Research Reports are provided by subject matter under the headings of "Climate and Natural Resources", "Forage Production", and "Livestock Production". A separate section is dedicated to Research in Progress. This Field Day 2002 Report is intended for our cooperators, partners, producers, farmers and guests on Field Day on April 18, 2002, as well as for visitors to the Laboratory through the year.

This Field Day 2002 Report is intended for our cooperators, partners, producers, farmers and guests on Field Day on April 18, 2002, as well as for visitors to the Laboratory through the year. The research at the laboratory is focused on the stocker calf component of the Nation's beef production system, and on the development of new technologies and management strategies which increase the profitability of forage and livestock production, reduce risk, promote sustainability, and conserve the productivity of grazinglands resources in the Great Plains. The laboratory staff consists of 17 scientists and 42 support personnel. The research program consists of two administrative units: the Forage and Livestock Production Research Unit and the Great Plains Agroclimate and Natural Resources Research Unit. Research Reports from both research units are provided by subject matter under the headings of "Climate and Natural Resources", "Forage Production", and "Livestock Production". A separate section is dedicated to Research in Progress from both research units.
