Using AVIRIS imager to map invasive plants on rangelands: Leafy spurge in northeastern Wyoming. In: Proceedings of the 11th JPL Airborne Earth Science Workshop. 03-04:237-244. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Leafy spurge is an adventive, perennial weed that infests approximaely 1.2 million hectares of land and causes severe environmental and economic impacts on rangelands. During 1999, AVIRIS imagery was acquired in northeastern Wyoming near Devils Tower National Monument. Mixed tuned matched filtering (MTMF) was used to estimate leafy spurge cover in three topographic positions and two land cover types. For all sites, performance of MTMF was good (R2 = 0.69) with better performance in prairie sites (R2 = 0.57). For woodland sites understory leafy spurge was detected in all plots, in spite of the problems with canopy overstory and shadows between crowns. |
