Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The IGCRP resource population F2 generation consists of a modern broiler chicken sire crossed with dams from unrelated highly inbred lines (Leghornand Fayoumi). Concentrations of circulating endocrine and metabolic factors were measures in the F2 population as compared to their founder lines. Significant differences in circulating glucose, lactate, insulin, glucagon, triiodothyronine, and thyroxine were observed. Heterosis and quantity of genes contributing to each trait were estimated and indicated differences between the Leghorn and Fayoumi backgrounds. Generally the Fayoumi line exhibited a pattern consistent with increased metabolic rate. Many well established correlations between the hormones and metabolites measured were observed in addition to significant correlations to F2 body composition traits.
