Interpretive Summary: Seed producers, white corn millers, and farmers need agronomic performance data to select white seeded corn hybrids adapted for growing in specific regions in the United States. The national performance tests of white hybrids included germplasm in late and early maturity groups. Fourteen and 15 locations were planted for the late and early maturity tests, respectively. Smaller seed companies benefitted by having their products tested in a much wider area than could be accomplished by the company itself. In 2001, the late maturity test compared 22 white hybrids submitted by 10 commercial seed producers, and the early test included 21 white hybrids from eight commercial seed producers. Significant performance differences were found among the entries in both tests for yield and all agronomic traits measured. First- and second-generation European corn borer data were observed at Columbia and Tipton, MO. Corn earworm damage and mold occurrence were obtained from Lubbock, TX, and moisture stress responses were observed at Halfway, TX. Stewart's wilt reactions were observed at the University of Illinois. Kernel quality evaluations were done by the Illinois Crop Improvement Association. These included the quality traits of test weight, kernel weight, kernel size, thins, density, and percentage horny endosperm. A report was published and distributed to the participating state experiment stations, seedsmen, and corn millers and processors. Technical Abstract: Seed producers, white corn millers, and farmers need performance data to select white seeded corn hybrids adapted for growing in specific regions in the U.S. The 2001 Late White Food Corn Performance Test included 22 white hybrids and 2 yellow checks submitted by 10 commercial seed producers. Ten white hybrids were new to the test in 2001. Fourteen locations were planted din the agronomic evaluation. Three white hybrids yielded significantly mor than the mean for all entries (165.1 bu/a): Zimmerman 1851W (184.5 bu/a), Zimmerman E8272 (181.2 bu/a), and Vineyard V445W (179.7 bu/a). An additional three white hybrids did not differ significantly from the top- yielding hybrid: Pioneer Brand 32K72 (175.6 bu/a), Pioneer Brand 32Y52 (172.7 bu/a), and Pioneer Brand 33T17 (172.7 bu/a). Two white entries yielded significantly less than the mean of all entries: Vineyard Vx7118W (152.1 bu/a) and Garst N0379W (142.6 bu/a). The 2001 Early White Food Corn Performance Test included 21 white hybrids and 2 yellow checks submitted b eight commercial seed producers. Eight white hybrids were new to the test. Fifteen total locations were planted in the agronomic evaluation. Four white hybrids yielded significantly more than the average entry: Pioneer Brand 33T17 (185.4 bu/a), Pioneer Brand 32K72 (185.0 bu/a), Vineyard V445W (176.0 bu/a), and Vineyard V433W (173.6 bu/a). Not differing significantly from the highest-yielding hybrid were Pioneer Brand 32K72 (185.0 bu/a) and Vineyard V445W (176.0 bu/a). Included among hybrids that yielded significantly lower than the average entry were Lfy (MBS62W Lfy728W) (148.8 bu/a), Vineyard V420W (146.5 bu/a), Zimmerman E2010 (140.6 bu/a), Lfy (FR810 Lfy728W) (137.9 bu/a), and NC+ RE557W (137.6 bu/a).
