Interpretive Summary: The plant virus genus Marafivirus includes maize rayado fino virus (MRFV), oat blue dwarf virus (OBDV), Bermuda grass etched-line virus (BELV). The Marafiviruses are the smallest known viruses that can multiply in both their plant host and insect vector, presenting a significant challenge for disease control. Their hosts include members of the plant family Poaceae. Both MRFV and OBDV can cause significant disease problems in their respective crop hosts. There are no satisfactory control measures for the viruses or their insect vectors. Information on these viruses is often dispersed in books and journal publications, which may be difficult to access. In this chapter, properties of this virus group, ranging from aspects of the virus particle to biological characteristics are covered, as well disease information. The information in this chapter will serve as a valuable reference for scientists and will lead to the development of novel technologies for plant virus disease control.

Technical Abstract: Book chapter.
