SCYLV was first identified in the 1990s. In Brazil, it caused economic losses on one commercial sugarcane cultivar; however, its economic impact in most countries is yet unknown. This report further confirms the widespread distribution of SCYLV and emphasizes the potential threat of this virus. Technical Abstract: Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) was found to occur in Ecuador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The presence of the virus was confirmed by a tissue blot immunoassay using an antiserum specific for SCYLV. This is the first report. |
