Many members of this family are serious pests of crops such as tomato, tobacco, cotton, and cacao, whereas others are beneficial and prey on certain crop pests such as aphids, mites, cotton budworm, and tomato hornworm. This paper reviews the Asian genus Yemmatropis and presents information on two species, one of which is described as new to science. This work will allow recognition of these poorly known stilt bugs and will assist certain quarantine and regulatory agencies in recognizing potentially important foreign species. Technical Abstract: The Asian stilt bug genus Yemmatropis Hsiao is reviewed and the type species, Y. dispar (Hsiao), and the new species, Y. erectus, are described. An adult habitus illustration of Y. erectus, scanning electron micrographs of selected structures and male parameres of both species, and a key are provided to assist in identification. |
