The selected nematode populations were then evaluated, using 15 different AFLP primer combinations, for potential markers associated with parasitic ability. A number of DNA fragments specific to some of the races have been identified. In particular, a 142-bp DNA fragment that is specific to race 5 of H. glycines has been isolated, cloned, and sequenced. Studies are underway to assess the potential of this fragment as a diagnostic probe to identify populations of race 5 from among other field populations of H. glycines. |
