Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Development of resistance to antimicrobials among a wide number of bacteria has emerged as a global concern. In addition to the increase in resistance to individual antimicrobials, multiple antimicrobial resistance is also on the rise. Resistant bacteria have been recovered from hospital, environmental, animal production and home settings. From a food safety standpoint, resistance among the food borne bacteria are o greatest concern. Regardless of antimicrobial status, animals can serve as reservoirs of these bacteria and have been implicated in transmission of these bacteria to humans.
