Interpretive Summary: An account of the vascular plants of China that includes one chapter for each plant family will be published in English. The Nelumbonaceae is family of perennial, aquatic plants represented by one genus and one species in China. The chapter includes a description of the family and the one species that is commonly cultivated for its edible rhizomes and seeds. This publication will be used by botanists and horticulturalists to locate and identify plants as part of a study of the biodiversity of China. .

Technical Abstract: The Nelumbonaceae of China is represented by the genus Nelumbo Adanson including one species, N. nucifera Gaertner. A description of the plant family is included as well as a description of N. nucifera.
