The gidA gene was previously described as being a 'cell division protein'. We have established that this locus actually encodes a transcriptional regulator. The P. syringae pv. syringae gidA gene is 90% identical to P. putida gidA gene. In P. syringae pv. syringae, the gidA gene regulates syringomycin and syringopeptin production as well as pathogenicity. Although not part of the gacS/gacA regulon, the gidA gene interacts independently with several of the genes in this conserved regulon. |
